Have you heard of the Gold Rush to Wild West in USA a couple of centuries ago? If not you better read American History, preferably written by a Brit!
Well the History repeats itself and this time around, it is the "bag full of gas" called Operating System.
Allow me to tutor you a bit, if you don't follow what is Operating System (OS for short). It is a small program that helps to start and run a computer and there on help to run your tasks. In the olden days when computers where simple these where called "Boot Strap", that is to say a few key strokes full of binary data generally entered manually.
But now the computers have grown to be very complex and naughty they need larger programs and there are automatic methods by which these get started and continue to run without bothering the operator.
Now to catch the "Catch"; that it is essential piece of software for a computer to run, so enter Gold Starved wild west from USA to make a fortune. The pun aside, the Software Industry from USA lead ably by Microsoft and others created bloated software called Operating System and are keeping computer users on their tender hooks now for nearly three decades and in return for the favor have earned trillions of dollars.
Do you ask - Why the lamenting?
Ruling by ignorance is a common phenomenon seen in societies around the world. Ignorance of gullible is bliss for the smart. Which is the case with computers. Make the computer a home appliance and place it the hands of the common man saying that he badly needs it and then make him pay through his nose for all the things that he doesn't need, You and I included.
One such is the Operating System which is bloated, costly, inefficient and full of bugs (errors). My line of argument may hurt the sentiments of free market enterprise. Well that is not my aim. I wish to point out that exploitation of all forms, any hue and color is criminal.
So I suggest when you sell a computer to a person give the poor fellow a choice and advice. Tell him / her that there are alternative OSes and their relative merit and demerits.
Tell the customer and let him /her decide and spend accordingly. Don't you (seller) dare to arm twist a customer. That is my point.
